Abu Dhabi - United Arab Emirates

Etihad Airways announced the transformation of its flights between Abu Dhabi and the Swedish city of Gothenburg from a seasonal service during the winter to a regular route operating throughout the year, after registering a strong demand for reservations during the first weeks of launching the new destination.

The flights are scheduled to begin on December 17, 2026, with four flights per week, using Airbus A321LR aircraft, which provide three travel classes, including the first suite, business class, and economy class, giving travelers multiple options between comfort and efficiency on long-haul flights.

Direct connection with western Sweden

Eric Dee, Chief Revenue and Commercial Affairs Officer at Etihad Airways, stressed that the decision reflects the strategic importance of the direct connection between Gothenburg and the company’s global network, especially with the growing demand for travel from western Sweden towards the Gulf region and Asia.

Gothenburg is the fifteenth new destination launched by the company during the year 2026, which expands the connectivity options for travelers to destinations in Asia, the Arabian Gulf, and the Indian subcontinent via Abu Dhabi Airport.

A boost to tourism and hospitality

Operating the line throughout the year will support tourism and business movement between the UAE and Sweden, and contribute to increasing visitor flows to Abu Dhabi, which will have an impact on hotels, restaurants, retail, transportation, and travel-related services.

The direct route also enhances the presence of Abu Dhabi Airport as a regional and international air hub, and supports tourism and cultural exchange between the Emirates and Scandinavian markets, especially with the expansion of the Etihad Airways network and the increase in travel options through the Emirati capital.
