Abu Dhabi - UAE
The Middle East Film and Comic Book Festival (MEFCC), the largest gathering of popular culture in the region, begins today, Friday, September 11, 2026, at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center (ADNEC), and continues until Sunday, September 13, in an experience that brings together fans of films, series, comics, anime, games, cosplay, K-pop, and collectibles under one roof.

International stars on time

An elite group of international stars will participate in this year’s edition, most notably John Cena, along with Simo Liu, the hero of the movie Shang-Chi, Machinio Zoro in One Piece, Pom Klementiev Mantis in the Marvel movies, Arden Chu, Jacob Romero, Jonas Suotamo, Shamik Moore, and Charithra Chandran, in addition to a group of interactive experiences, entertainment activities, and areas designated for fans.

Diverse experiences for visitors

The festival includes multiple interactive areas, including an artists’ gallery, an otaku area for Japanese culture, a games arena, and a collectibles exhibition, in addition to cosplay competitions and live performances. Crunchyroll also participates for the first time in the UAE as an official sponsor of the Otaku Zone.

A golden opportunity for the Arab tourist
The MEFCC Festival is no longer a passing entertainment event, but rather a tourist destination in itself. The Arab fan who used to travel to Tokyo or San Diego to attend pop and anime events, today finds a world-class experience in Abu Dhabi. The presence of stars like John Cena and McNew gives the festival an appeal that transcends the borders of the region, and makes the UAE capital an obligatory stop for fans of popular culture this week.

As for the Arab investor in the entertainment sector, the festival represents an opportunity to monitor the latest trends in content creation and interactive experiences, and build on them in local projects. MEFCC's repeated success proves that the demand for this type of event in the region is real and growing, opening the door to new investments in interactive museums, gaming areas, and year-round fan experiences.
