Damascus - Syria
Today, Deir ez-Zor International Airport received the first direct flight of the German company “LEAV Aviation” coming from Bonn/Köln Airport, in a qualitative event that opens new horizons for travel and tourism in eastern Syria, and reflects the Syrian government’s approach towards redistributing air traffic and revitalizing regional airports.

A journey that goes beyond just the arrival of a plane

The flight is of strategic importance beyond being merely the arrival of a German plane to Deir ez-Zor, as it represents a qualitative leap in the process of restarting the airport and expanding the international air connectivity network, while alleviating the burden of travel on the residents of the region and opening the way for the return of expatriates and visitors more easily, instead of restricting international flights to the main airports.

This development comes after the reopening of Deir ez-Zor Airport on August 5, receiving Syrian Airlines flights, and then the start of direct flights by Jazeera Airways between Kuwait and Deir ez-Zor, which indicates the formation of an initial network that can be built upon in the future.

Promising tourism and investment opportunities
From a tourism perspective, improving air connectivity represents a prerequisite for rediscovering the historical, cultural and natural components of the region, as Deir ez-Zor Governorate is full of unique archaeological and historical sites, while increasing passenger traffic can support the demand for hotels, restaurants, transportation and tourism services.

Attracting foreign airlines also gives investors a positive indication of the potential for market growth, and supports opportunities to develop hospitality facilities and travel-related services, transforming Deir ez-Zor Airport from a re-operated facility into a vital economic and tourism asset, capable of linking eastern Syria to regional and international markets and supporting a new phase of recovery and investment.
