Muscat-Sultanate of Oman

The National Museum signed a cooperation agreement with the Omani Women’s Association in Muscat, with the aim of preserving the Omani cultural heritage, spreading community awareness, and highlighting women’s contributions to the process of national civilization.

The agreement was signed by Jamal bin Hassan Al Musawi, Secretary-General of the Museum, and Liqa Bint Saif Al Maawali, President of the Association, in the presence of Rashid bin Ahmed Al Shamsi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Development.

Dialogue workshops and visits to introduce national identity

The agreement includes providing the opportunity for Omani women to practice traditional crafts within the facilities of the National Museum, and organizing expository and exploratory visits for members of the association.

The items also include holding lectures, workshops, and joint dialogue sessions concerned with Omani identity and culture, and activating the participation of members of the “Friends of Oman Museums” program in the activities and demonstrations organized by the association.

Implications for cultural tourism and the social economy

This partnership contributes to revitalizing cultural tourism and the visitor experience in Muscat, by providing live performances of Omani heritage crafts and industries.

The initiative also supports the economic and social empowerment of women, and enhances the attractiveness of museum landmarks as pioneering cultural destinations that attract visitors and tourists, in line with the aspirations of the “Oman 2040” vision to enhance partnership and build the knowledge economy.
