Cairo - Egypt
Forbes magazine placed Egypt among three new exceptional travel experiences worth following in 2027, in a recent report that highlighted a new tourism program that combines adventure, luxury, and history, in addition to selected experiences in Japan and the Alps.
An adventure between Cairo, Luxor and Aswan
The program, launched by Backroads for the first time in Egypt, offers a multi-activity trip that includes walking, cycling and kayaking, in addition to accommodation in luxury hotels and a Nile cruise extending between Cairo, Luxor and Aswan.
The itinerary includes visiting the Pyramids of Giza, cycling near the royal tombs on the western side of Luxor, visiting the temples of Abu Simbel, as well as rafting in the Nile between the temples and villages along its banks. Guests are also accompanied by a local Egyptologist to provide a specialized explanation of the archaeological sites.
Luxury on the banks of the Nile
The experience combines adventure and luxury accommodation, through hotels including the Old Cataract Hotel in Aswan and Al Moudira Hotel in Luxor, in addition to a trip on board the Sanctuary Serai, a luxury Nile cruise ship that debuted in 2026. The trip lasts eight days during the period from October to December 2027, with a price starting from $13,399 per person based on double occupancy.
Why did Egypt attract attention?
The choice reflects a growing trend towards presenting Egypt as a destination that does not depend only on visiting antiquities, but rather on experiences that combine culture with physical activity, nature and upscale accommodation. This is in line with the diversity of the Egyptian tourism product between the Nile, the Desert, historical sites, and cultural cities.
A different way for Arab tourists to discover Egypt
For the Arab traveler, this type of program opens the door to a different way to discover Egypt; Instead of the traditional journey between archaeological sites, the movement itself becomes part of the experience, whether by bike, boat or walking, with a higher level of privacy and service.
In a tourism market that is moving more towards specialized experiences, Egypt seems likely to benefit from the combination of its internationally known history and modern adventures that re-present the destination in a different way.
