Algiers - the capital
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has included the Algeria International Comic Book Festival (VIBDA) within its platform for monitoring cultural policies, in international recognition that reflects the festival’s success in transforming into an exceptional tourism and cultural phenomenon. This international appreciation culminated in the field operational performance of the festival, after it succeeded in attracting more than 80,000 visitors in Riad Al-Fath Square, with wide international participation that included 16 countries, which reflected positively on the movement of hotels, restaurants and airports in the capital.
Exceptional crowds and growing international appeal
The public and tourism success of the festival was embodied in unprecedented human flows, as the festival’s Commissioner-General, Salim Brahimi, revealed that the public arrived in a high density, especially during the weekend, which forced the administration to close the doors temporarily to regulate the entry movement. The events witnessed intense activity by the international pavilions, most notably the Japanese pavilion, which organized workshops and competitions that offered prizes that included international travel trips.
An official statement linking recognition to the economic dimension
In the context of emphasizing the importance of the festival as a tourist and economic destination for the country, Algerian Minister of Culture and Arts Malika Bendouda explained the strategic vision for these demonstrations, saying:
“Festivals are not just days of cultural activity, but rather an economic and cultural system based on entertainment and educational goals and contributing to the national economy.”
Promising prospects for the Arab investor and traveler
The UNESCO listing of VIBDA - supported by high crowd occupancy figures - proves that festival tourism and youth tourism (comics and manga enthusiasts) have become a promising investment sector in the region. This momentum opens valuable opportunities for Arab investors in the fields of hospitality, entertainment and creative industries, to benefit from Algeria’s transformation into a major destination for major events with regional and international appeal.
