Doha - Qatar
Today, Saturday, September 12, 2026, Doha Museums are transforming from traditional spaces for viewing collectibles and works of art to interactive platforms that give the visitor a direct role in creating the experience, within a diverse program that brings together children, families, and adults around art, heritage, and creativity. At the forefront of the scene is the “Junior Curator” event at the Museum of Islamic Art, in addition to interactive art workshops hosted by Mathaf: The Arab Museum of Modern Art.
Children in the museum curator's seat
Between 2:30 and 4:30 p.m., the Museum of Islamic Art will host the MIA Family Day: Junior Curator event, which gives children and their families the opportunity to explore Islamic art from a different perspective, by learning how to study and care for museum pieces and choose ways to display them. Family members participate together in examining models of the museum’s collection and creating a miniature experience that simulates the work of museum curators. The event is free, held in Arabic and English, and does not require prior registration.
Art is heard and drawn
In Education City, Mathaf offers the Realms of Rhythm workshop for adults, in an experience that integrates movement, sound, and art, and invites participants to deal with music as a material that can be expressed visually and kinesthetically. The workshop takes place from eleven in the morning until one in the afternoon, and is free, with prior registration required. Today, Mathaf is also witnessing the Drawtastic event, which gives participants a free space to draw and experiment, away from traditional restrictions.
The museum is part of the trip
These programs reveal a growing trend in the Qatari cultural experience towards making museum visits a participatory activity, not just a silent tour among the exhibits. This adds a new dimension to the tourism product in Doha, especially for visitors looking for cultural experiences that can be shared and learned.
A different choice for the Arab family
For Arab tourists, these events give families an opportunity to include the museum in the day’s tourism program in a way that is more attractive to children, especially with the presentation of the “Junior Curator” in Arabic and English, for free. Thus, the visit turns from a short cultural stop into a family experience that brings together knowledge, entertainment and interaction in the heart of Doha.
