Dubai-United Arab Emirates
The Dubai Environment and Climate Change Authority announced the launch of a joint strategic project in close cooperation with the International Union for Conservation of Nature, with the aim of preparing and implementing a comprehensive and unified plan for the network of natural reserves spread throughout the Emirate of Dubai.
The official agreement was signed on the sidelines of the activities of the inaugural session of the Dubai Environment Exhibition and Conference. Under this cooperation, the Authority will develop an integrated scientific framework that allows for assessing the current reality of the terrestrial and marine environments, in preparation for integrating them into an advanced operational system that is fully compatible with the ambitious goals of the Dubai Urban Plan 2040 and the internationally approved Green List standards for protected areas.
Modernizing legislative frameworks and protecting biodiversity
This ambitious environmental initiative includes a careful review of the current environmental situation within the eight existing natural reserves in the emirate. The most prominent of them are the Hatta Mountain Reserve, the Al Marmoom Desert Reserve, and the Ras Al Khor Wildlife Reserve, as well as the Jebel Ali Marine Reserve and the rest of the protected natural ranges.
The work program focuses on conducting intensive field assessments of environmental communication corridors and measuring the ability of fungal habitats to adapt to climate change, in addition to organizing specialized national workshops that ensure the updating of regulating laws and allow the involvement of experts and representatives of local communities in protecting animal and plant species and preserving vital natural resources.
Economic implications for ecotourism and hospitality
The project constitutes a fundamental pillar for consolidating Dubai's position as a leading destination for sustainable eco-tourism and the regional green economy, by providing qualitative exploratory experiences that take into account the requirements of nature conservation and provide visitors and tourists with a safe recreational haven amidst the enchanting wildlife.
These advanced urban plans are directly and positively reflected in stimulating hotel investments specialized in eco-resorts, raising occupancy rates in sustainable accommodation in desert and mountainous areas, revitalizing the transportation and tourism guidance sectors, in addition to creating promising professional paths that serve the community and contribute strongly to diversifying the streams of national income.
