Cairo - Egypt
Egypt and Japan are moving towards a new phase of integration in the tourism and archaeological sectors, by expanding the scope of joint work and exchanging specialized experiences. These steps come to consolidate Cairo's position as a major destination for international tourism and investment flows, with a focus on investing in the capabilities available to both parties to support sustainable tourism development and the development of human heritage.
High Japanese support for archaeological cooperation and the Grand Museum
The archaeological partnership between Cairo and Tokyo represents a prominent model of international cooperation, as 12 Japanese missions are active in various locations inside Egypt, specializing in restoration work and developing antiquities maintenance techniques in cooperation with the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA). These efforts culminate in an expected Japanese participation in supporting the Grand Egyptian Museum as it is the icon of the Egyptian cultural and tourism project.
In this context, during his meeting with Japanese Government Commissioner for Cultural Affairs Kaguhai Ito on the sidelines of the International Tourism Fair in Tokyo, Egyptian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathi stressed the depth of bilateral relations, saying:
“Egypt seeks to expand the scope of cooperation with Japan in the fields of tourism and antiquities, while making maximum use of the expertise and capabilities available to both parties.”
Solidity of Japanese flows and diversification of programs
Tourism sector figures show remarkable stability in the number of Japanese arrivals despite regional challenges. The average stay of a Japanese tourist in Egypt is 10 days, which gives tour operators the opportunity to design comprehensive programs that combine cultural tourism, Nile cruises, and coastal resorts. This stability in demand rates provides a reliable database on which hotel expansion plans and service modernization are based.
Exceptional opportunities for the Arab investor and traveler
The increasing growth in the area surrounding the Grand Egyptian Museum represents a strategic opportunity for Arab investors to benefit from government initiatives aimed at increasing the capacity of hotels and entertainment facilities. On the other hand, Arab tourists benefit from this momentum through the diversity of the tourism product and the advancement of cultural and family tourism, which makes Egypt a wonderful choice that combines authenticity and an integrated entertainment atmosphere.
