Developed by Ajdan for Al Muhaidib Group, the new tourism destination features four zones for hospitality, leisure, and beach activities, incorporating international Blue Flag environmental standards.
Al Khobar – Saudi Arabia – Al-Rehla
Saudi Arabia has officially opened Bayfront, a new SAR 250 million ($66.5 million) tourism destination along the Al Khobar Corniche, adding a major waterfront attraction to the Kingdom’s Eastern Province.
Stretching one kilometer along the Arabian Gulf, the development brings together beaches, hospitality venues, restaurants, and recreational facilities in a single coastal destination.
Prince Saud bin Naif bin Abdulaziz, Governor of the Eastern Province, inaugurated Bayfront on Sunday, November 1, 2026, marking the official opening of a project first announced in 2022.
Covering approximately 100,000 square meters, Bayfront comprises four integrated zones featuring waterfront restaurants and cafés, a sandy beach, pedestrian walkways, open spaces, and facilities for marine and recreational activities.
A Tourism Investment Led by Al Muhaidib Group
The development is owned by Al Muhaidib Group and was developed by Ajdan Real Estate Development, with support and facilitation from the Eastern Province Municipality and the Tourism Development Fund.
Ajdan initially announced the project in October 2022, with an investment value of SAR 250 million, as part of broader efforts to transform coastal waterfronts into integrated commercial, leisure, and tourism destinations.
During the inauguration, Essam Al Muhaidib, CEO of Al Muhaidib Group, highlighted the destination’s diverse facilities and experiences connected to the marine environment, reflecting the group's commitment to developing attractive urban spaces for residents and visitors.
Saudi Arabia’s First Beach to Apply Blue Flag Standards
Bayfront incorporates international Blue Flag standards covering environmental quality, beach safety, visitor services, and sustainable coastal management.
In June 2025, the Eastern Province Municipality announced that the project had received an international award for becoming the first beach in Saudi Arabia to implement Blue Flag standards.
These standards address water quality, environmental education, beach management, safety, and visitor facilities.
The initiative adds an environmental dimension to the development, integrating sustainability considerations into the design and management of coastal tourism destinations.
Al-Rehla Perspective | A New Coastal Attraction for Gulf Visitors
The opening of Bayfront expands Al Khobar’s tourism and leisure offerings, strengthening the appeal of one of Saudi Arabia’s leading coastal cities.
Located near Bahrain via the King Fahd Causeway, Al Khobar is well positioned to attract visitors from neighboring Gulf countries, particularly those seeking short breaks and weekend experiences.
By combining waterfront promenades, restaurants, cafés, and beach activities within a single development, Bayfront offers another destination for travelers exploring Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province.
With the project now officially inaugurated, attention turns to the visitor experience, including operating hours, available recreational activities, and access arrangements for individual facilities, which travelers should confirm before visiting.
