Iraqi Airways

The national carrier reconnects Baghdad and southern Iraq with the Chinese capital through scheduled flights on Tuesdays and Saturdays, expanding international travel options.

Baghdad, Iraq – Al Rehla

Iraqi Airways has announced the resumption of flights to Beijing, China, starting November 14, 2026, with two weekly services operating via the Baghdad–Basra–Beijing route.
The move restores air connectivity between Iraq and China, providing additional travel options for passengers and business travellers.
The decision forms part of the national carrier’s efforts to restore international destinations and expand its network into Asian markets, with Basra International Airport included as a stop along the route.

Two Weekly Flights via Basra

According to the announced schedule, outbound flights from Iraq will operate on Tuesdays and Saturdays, while return services from Beijing are scheduled for Sundays and Wednesdays.
Mustafa Talib, Director General of Iraqi Airways, said the resumption aligns with directives from the Ministry of Transport to expand the airline’s international network and introduce routes of economic and commercial importance.
The announcement did not specify departure and arrival times or the duration of the stopover in Basra. It also did not clarify whether passengers would remain on the same aircraft throughout the journey.

Return to the Chinese Market

Iraqi Airways previously resumed Baghdad–Beijing services in 2024 following a prolonged suspension, before the route was subsequently discontinued again.
The return of flights is particularly significant given the strong trade relations between Iraq and China, offering an additional air travel option for business executives, importers, tourists and passengers visiting family or travelling for personal reasons.

Al Rehla Perspective

The route provides travellers from Baghdad and Basra with a scheduled connection to Beijing without needing to arrange flights with another airline.
Passengers are advised to verify flight schedules, fares, Chinese visa requirements and transit arrangements in Basra before booking, particularly as the scheduled launch date approaches.
