Official data reveals a 37% increase in tourist accommodation registrations, a 33% rise in tour guide registrations, and 32% growth in tour operator registrations by the end of Q3 2026.

Riyadh – Saudi Arabia – Al-Rehla

The number of active commercial registrations for tourist lodges in Saudi Arabia increased by 52% year-on-year, reaching 18,115 by the end of the third quarter of 2026, compared with 11,900 during the same period last year, according to data released by the Saudi Ministry of Commerce on November 3, 2026.

The increase reflects expanding commercial activity across the tourism sector, with registrations rising in accommodation, tour guiding, and travel organisation services, indicating broader business participation in tourism-related activities.

Accommodation and Tour Services Record Growth

Ministry data showed that commercial registrations for tourist accommodation facilities increased by 37% to 18,956, compared with 13,819 at the end of the third quarter of 2025.

Registrations for tour guide activities also rose by 33%, from 5,784 to 7,735, while tour operator registrations grew by 32%, reaching 11,949 compared with 9,057 a year earlier.

These activities cover various segments of the tourism services industry, ranging from accommodation options to organised tours and professional guiding services.

Commercial Growth Does Not Necessarily Mean New Openings

The Ministry of Commerce stated that the increase in registrations reflects expanding opportunities for businesses and small and medium-sized enterprises, alongside the development of tourism destinations across the Kingdom.

However, these figures do not mean that an equivalent number of tourist lodges or accommodation facilities are operational, as commercial registration differs from tourism licensing and actual business operations.

The data also does not disclose the value of investments implemented, the number of newly available hotel rooms, or occupancy rates.

Al-Rehla Perspective | Where Is the Real Growth?

The figures demonstrate an expanding base of tourism-related commercial activities in Saudi Arabia, particularly in accommodation and supporting services.

However, assessing the impact of this growth on travellers and the tourism market requires additional data on facilities that have actually commenced operations, available accommodation capacity, and the number of customers using tour organisation and guiding services.
