Beijing - China
When China moves, the global tourism sector moves with it; This year, the “Golden Week” holiday has transformed from a regular seven-day vacation into an exceptional travel wave extending up to 13 days, driving huge numbers of travelers to change the map of tourist destinations in Asia and the world. This shift came as a result of the “Mid-Autumn Festival” holiday coinciding with the “National Day” holiday, which gave millions of workers the opportunity to spend a continuous and long vacation that began early and was distributed to more diverse and remote destinations.
Longer flights and extended stays across multiple destinations
Travel patterns have changed significantly; Trip.com data revealed that the average duration of foreign trips exceeded nine days, with an 84% jump in multi-destination trip bookings compared to last year. Bookings for hotel stays lasting seven nights or more also increased by 123%, which reflects the desire of the Chinese traveler to take advantage of the long vacation by visiting multiple cities and countries within one trip.
Asia is in the lead and there is a noticeable influx towards far-flung destinations
The city of Seoul topped the list of most attractive destinations, in addition to a rebound in bookings towards Southeast Asia, where the Hong Kong authorities expect to receive about 1.29 million visitors from mainland China. Meanwhile, flights to Europe, Australia and the US recorded double-digit growth, with cities such as Auckland, Queenstown, Incheon and Chiang Mai emerging as preferred options for the 18-24 age group, which is the fastest growing in bookings.
The Spending Paradox: Travel longer with greater budget awareness
Despite the significant increase in traveler numbers, the spending index remains affected by the slowdown in domestic consumption in China; Travelers are adopting a behavior based on smart budget management, moving towards mid-range hotels rather than luxury accommodations. These data put investors in the hospitality sector and tourist destinations in the Arab region and the Middle East before a real test to benefit from these flows, by providing authentic local experiences, flexible stays, and extended programs that guarantee the provision of balanced investment and tourism value that suits the aspirations of the modern Chinese tourist.
